【摘要】（小五号黑体，加粗）作为中国古代人民智慧和创造力的结晶——中国十二生肖，现在却面临着西方十二星座的挑战。十二星座已成为时下年轻人，尤其是八零后和九零后的热门话题。本文旨在探究十二星座的流行因素和十二生肖暗淡的背后原因。为了更好的了解两者文化，笔者首先对比了二者的文化起源和点出造成两者文化差异的环境因素。在对比他们在各自背景下的文化内涵和在异域文化中的误解后，笔者发现十二生肖无论是中文中还是在其他语言文化中，某些对象的内涵都显得丑陋。并对十二星座和十二生肖的翻译做了简要对比，发现十二星座翻译的优雅性以及神秘性满足了青少年追求时尚的心理，从而促进了十二星座文化的盛行。最后作者得出翻译在文化传播中的重要性结论，以期唤起读者在文化全球化的进程中保存和宣传我国古代民族文化的的意识。（中文摘要采用小五号楷体，加粗，英文摘要采用五号“Time New Roman”

However, now it’s challenged by the western horoscope, which is the hot subject of conversation among the teenagers, especially those born after 1980s and 1990s. This thesis focuses on finding out the reason for the popularization of the western horoscope and the fading of the Chinese zodiac. To get to know about these two cultures, firstly presented are the origins of them

and the environmental factors shaping their differences. Then after comparing their original images in their own cultural backgrounds and their misinterpretations during the intercultural transmission, the author finds misinterpretations of the Chinese zodiac overwhelming, with some of its images in both native culture and foreign cultures being disgraceful. After comparing the translation of the western horoscope and the Chinese zodiac, the author discovers that the elegance and mystification of translation of the western horoscope, catering for the teenagers’ pursuit of fashion, boosts the popularization of this culture. Finally, the author safely arrives at the conclusion of the importance of translation during the dissemination of culture, and that of preservation and promotion of our ancient native culture in the process of cultural globalization.（五号Times New Roman字体，不加粗，单倍行距）
